M.A.D. Launch at the Melbourne Cup

M.A.D Melbourne Cup

It was almost surreal. I was standing on the grounds at the Flemington Racetrack with Abwi and Edward dressed in M.A.D. outfits and people just started coming up to us and asking us about the clothes. Abwi and Edward were sensational. They looked very cool and were very welcoming to all who approached them.

I have never been to the Melbourne Cup. I have been on the set up for music festivals there, but I’d never seen the Horses run. Years ago, I did location audio for one of the sports channels in Sydney, and all I remember is having to get up at 3 a.m. to be there for 4 a.m. for morning training. I thought it was a gruelling existence for the Strappers, but they loved it. Horse people are very passionate.

While I was at the Cup, a woman approached me and told me that there was a campaign to ask fashion houses to not sponsor horse racing. The life of a racehorse causes them severe mental stress to the point that they can go insane. They lose all their Horse in a Herd sense, which is the blueprint for understanding and knowing their existence. They become lost in an extremely intense mindless routine. Lucky for them some people and organisations rehabilitate ex-racehorses, though some meet a dark end.

It was not my intention to write about the suffering of racehorses, but to hear of their suffering made me stop and think about what was important.

To end on a high note, we had a good time met lots of people, danced, were silly, got on CH9 News in the NT and Fox News Nationally and all in all the day was a success. We won’t place M.A.D. at the races to show off again, we’ll find a place more suited to the M.A.D. about Life.
